Peace, Paws, and Pages

Some people go to the spa to find peace. Me? I open my journal to find my zen and scratch behind my golden retriever Hudson’s ears. Both bring incredible peace and calm. And neither asks anything of me that I’m not effortlessly willing to provide.

My journal is the place I go when the noise of the day gets too loud. My thoughts pile up like an overstuffed junk drawer. I flip it open and start writing, seeking that sense of journaling zen. The words don’t have to be polished or profound—they just have to show up on the page. Once they’re down, I can finally breathe. My journal never interrupts me, never judges me, and always holds space for me exactly as I am. It’s like a silent therapist with really good paper stock. Again, very much like Hudson.

My joy boy, Hudson.

Speaking of Hudson…he’s the master of peace, the fur-covered guru of calm with his wagging tail. He flops down next to me and sighs. I’m reminded of what’s actually important: achieving zen in the moment. Love and trust are so obvious that they don’t need words. Sometimes, he rests his head on my knee while I write. It feels like he’s guarding my thoughts. He keeps them safe.

Together—journal and dog—they’re my perfect reset button. A pen in one hand, soft golden fur under the other. Achieving journaling zen in such moments feels perfect. If that isn’t peace, I don’t know what is.

If you’re craving a little more calm in your own life, it might be time to create your version. Think about what could make this pairing work for you. If you desire more tranquility, you should create your own version of this combination and find what brings you peace. A journal that invites your thoughts out of hiding. A loyal friend (furry or otherwise) who reminds you to slow down. And if you’re looking for a place to start, our Starring Me! Journal is ready to meet you where you are—no barking required.

Write on.
